Launch Status for Hurley

Important Update!

Next Hurley Launch

SEPTEMBER 11th Rain Date the 12th

Vice President May 22nd Launch report:

CTRA's first half is in the books. We had a temporary flight restriction
that kept flights to 1000' but was lifted at 2pm and we had our waiver
back to 5000'. There were some great flights yesterday even our first
grass fire due to a K555 skid. I won't use names... Ok it was me.

Saturday May 22th : Launched!

8/22/10 FAA Waiver Update at 2PM waiver limitation of 1K was lifted, this was due to west point speech by the president.

8/21/10 Do to a Temporary Flight
Restriction over the Kingston area until 1:00 pm.

The FAA Waiver has been limited to 1,000' AGL , we were informed tonight 8/21/2010 at 8PM of this limitation. We were told to call back at 1PM with hopes the restriction would be lifted and the waiver to be back to the normal 5,000' AGL.

CTRA's first launch is in the books, and we couldn't have asked for a

Hurley GILL CORN FARM - CTRA Launch Site

CTRA/NARCONN is
privileged to have the use of several adjoining fields located on a
large private farm in Hurley, New York, located about 10 minutes south
west of Kingston, NY. (this site is located near a very busy air
corridor)

Waiver open from
9AM to 6PM to 5,000' AGL with a K impulse limit.(AGL = Above Ground Level)

Motor
Limit: "K" motors, subject to conditions and the
approval of the Prefect and Range Safety Officer. Must conform to
altitude limit.
Weight Limit: There is no stated weight limit but Rockets must be within
safety limits of flight profile.

L Impulse flights can be allowed with proper notification
to CTRA PRESIDENT/ Prefect for review prior to launch date. Rockets must
be within safety limits of flight profile.*larger project
require preparations to meet safety distance and have the heavy pad and
extreme rail available.

NOTICE: Launch site is located on private property, please respect the
property owners rights and only visit or use the field during scheduled
club launches.

Launch
Fee: [ CTRA Members $15.00 ] [ Non CTRA MEMBERS $20.00 ]

*Children under 16 may fly for free on the low power pads with
adult supervision if adult flight fee is paid.

Young Adults: [ CTRA MEMBER $10.00 ] [ Non
CTRA MEMBERS $15.00 ]
Children group rates can be
arranged for scouts and 4H please contact president a week in
advance.Please provide 1-2 weeks notice

Safety: Power Lines Kill

Both the Model
Rocket and High Power Rocket
Safety Codes of the NAR contain the rule "I will not attempt to recover
my rocket from power lines, tall trees, or other dangerous places." The
only fatalities that our hobby has ever experienced have been to fliers
(none of them NAR members) who did not follow this rule. Sadly, the
list of people who have died while trying to recover a rocket from a
power line now has another entry. Ted Fewer of Calgary (Canada) died on
May 4 from massive injuries suffered while standing on a ladder and
using a launch rod to snag the shock cord of a rocket that he had landed
on a power line. This is the fifth fatality that we know of to a
person trying to remove a rocket from a power line.

If you see a rocket land on a power line, do NOT try to
remove it yourself. Call the power company and let them know
it is there; they probably need to remove it in order to prevent a
service disruption and to prevent passers-by from trying to get it down
as a souvenir, and they may charge you for coming out, but it is better
that having someone get killed for a rocket.
